Feature College: DentistryThe College of Dentistry at The Ohio State University was established in 1914. It offers several academic programs for general dentists, specialists, and hygienists, and in the last 90 years has awarded thousands of academic degrees to dental professionals. Additionally, the faculty provide continuing education programs yearly to over 2000 dental professionals. College faculty are also actively involved in both oral science and clinical research and receive over 4.3 million yearly in grant funding.
The college operates several dental care clinics as well as the Dental Faculty Practice. These clinics provide care in all of the dental specialty areas in addition to general dentistry and preventive treatment. The college also has special children's clinics in Postle Hall and at Columbus Children's Hospital, Nisonger Center, and Coshocton (Ohio) Clinic.
College faculty are involved in state and national level activities directed at increasing the access to dental care for underserved populations. Recently the college is among a group of select schools to receive a major grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to support community based dental education programs. This grant is just one example of many efforts being implemented in the college focused toward expanding outreach efforts.
