Summer is a time for fun for you and your family, so don't let the sun make you long for rainy days. Have questions about protecting you and the kids from the sun? Is it too late and now you need to know what to do about that burn? NetWellness can help!
Two faculty members from The Center for Human Genetics at University Hospitals of Cleveland answer questions and write content for NetWellness.
Their perspectives help NetWellness visitors understand concepts in genetics, interpret genetic risks, and learn more about inherited disorders.
The Center for Human Genetics, a unique collaboration between clinicians of University Hospitals of Cleveland and researchers of Case Western Reserve University, specializes in evaluation, diagnosis and counseling for individuals of all ages and their family members. The Center's faculty includes board-certified medical geneticists and genetic counselors who serve patients for a variety of conditions. Examples include children and adults with developmental difficulties, individuals with or family histories of birth defects or genetic disorders, pregnant women who have an abnormality detected on prenatal testing and adults with early onset cancer. Some genetic diseases are not yet treatable; therefore, the center and their faculty and staff ensure that patients and their family are carefully educated about prognosis, complications that may occur and the best therapy currently available.
Before packing for the first picnic of the summer season be sure to read "Don't Be Sorry; Keep Picnic Foods Safe" by Jaime Ackerman, RD, LD, Extension Nutrition Associate in the College of Human Ecology at The Ohio State University.
Before heading out to the beach or pool don't forget to review "Sun-Safe Strategies to Prevent Skin Cancer" by Tatiana Oberyszyn, PhD, Assistant Professor, in the Comprehensive Cancer Center at the James Cancer Hospital & Solove Research Institute of The Ohio State University.
NetWellness now features three new summer safety articles from Walter Chwals, MD, Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine and the Rainbow Community Safety & Resource Center, at the Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital. Learn about keeping children safe during the warm weather in Falls Prevention, Playground Safety, and Poison Proof Your Garage.
In our effort to provide the most current information to visitors, NetWellness is now adding video news releases from partner universities to the site. These are brief but content-rich interviews with researchers. The following have been added this month:
Mini Medical Schools are offered to the general public at the University of Cincinnati, Case Western Reserve University, and The Ohio State University. Classes are taught by the faculty of the three universities. Can't attend? You're in luck. Many of the presentations will be available on NetWellness. New for this month is: Chemical and Radiologic Weapons by Richard Nelson, MD, Professor and Vice Chairman, Department of Emergency Medicine, The Ohio State University Medical Center
