NetWellness Mourns Long Time Expert's Passing

Dr. Janet Trigg, Professor Emeritus of Nursing, University of Cincinnati College of Nursing had a long and distinguished career as a nurse educator and critical care nurse. She was a nursing graduate of St. Louis University and received her master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Cincinnati.

Dr. Trigg taught medical-surgical nursing and took her students to University, Bethesda North and The Christ Hospital for their clinical experiences. A former ICU nurse, she was an excellent role model; her relationship with nursing students was one of the most important aspects of her academic career. Towards the end, Janet would often say, "be sure to let the students know how much I loved them".

Janet's nursing expertise was in breast cancer research and how this disease affects survivors and their families. In 1995, she co-authored a book in this area that has been widely used by women all over the country. She was in the forefront in nursing education when she developed two courses in cancer nursing.

Dr. Trigg was actively involved with the Greater Cincinnati Breast Cancer Alliance and the National Breast Cancer Coalition where she lobbied with U.S. Senators/Representatives for increased funds for breast cancer research. Since 1995 she served as a breast cancer expert for the consumer web based health information resource NetWellness developed in the state of Ohio through the University of Cincinnati, The Ohio State University and Case Western Reserve University. Recently she was recognized for answering the 23,000 question on the Ask and Expert feature of the NetWellness web site.

Throughout her years at the College of Nursing, Dr. Trigg continued to mentor students through her involvement in UC Mortar Board, and as a member and President of Sigma Theta Tau, the national honorary nursing society. She received many awards over the years but none were dearer to her than the recognition by her peers for her excellence in teaching and leadership at the College.

Active at the College of Nursing even after her retirement she served as President of the Alumni Association and chair of the Laura Rosnagle Scholarship Endowment Funds.

Dr. Trigg is survived by her loving and devoted husband, William Trigg Jr., and her four children Karen Wigger, Mary Janet Akau, Michael and William J. Trigg III, and her twelve talented and loving grandchildren.
