Dr. Allen Firestone, born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., received his B.A. at San Francisco State College. He completed his dental education (D.D.S.) at Columbia University where he also received a Certificate in Orthodontics. He held an appointment at the University of Zurich, in Switzerland, in the Department of Cariology, Periodontology and Preventive Dentistry. Dr. Firestone returned to the U.S. and took a position at the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB) in the Department of Restorative Dentistry. He completed a certificate program in Cariology and an M.S. in Oral Biology. A tenured Associate Professor, Dr. Firestone left UAB to take a position at the University of Bern in the Department of Orthodontics. After several years and having earned tenure (Privat Dozent) at the University of Bern, he returned to the U.S. and accepted a position at the O.S.U. College of Dentistry, Section of Orthodontics as an Associate Professor. Dr. Firestone has published extensively in cariology and orthodontics. His research interests in orthodontics include treatment outcome and the side effects of orthodontic therapy. He has been a reviewer for the Journal of Dental Research, Caries Research, the European Journal of Orthodontics and the Journal of Orthodontics.
