Professional Interests I have specialty training and interest in addiction medicine, psychiatric problems including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and smoking cessation. I am quite interested in women's health, especially menopause management. I am becoming excited about the benefits of complementary medicine and do use herbal therapy at times when I deem it appropriate. I recommend stress management techniques including meditation and yoga and appreciate the more holistic aspects of medicine that address all aspects of a patient's life including emotional, physical and spiritual. I have a strong belief in treating the whole family when possible. In addition to teaching and supervising family practice residents from a family practice perspective and my particular interests, I also teach addiction medicine to first-year medical students in the medical humanities curriculum. External to the medical school, I have spoken at the national level, for example, at the Annual Conference of the AAFP in 1996. At the local level, I frequently speak to city groups of paramedics and my peers in family medicine regarding addiction medicine. I am active in assisting physicians throughout Ohio who have addiction problems and/or psychiatric issues they want to address working through the Ohio Physicians Effectiveness Program.
