William J. Hicks, MD

Dr. Hicks earned his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School. He completed his residency at University Health Center of Pittsburgh Presbyterian-University Hospital, and his fellowship in hematology and oncology at The Ohio State University. Dr. Hicks joined the faculty at The Ohio State University in 2002 after serving 23 years in private practice.

Serving as the co-director of diversity enhancement for the University, public health and public service are principal callings for Hicks. Among his numerous civic contributions, Hicks has been the honorary chair of the National Black Leadership Initiative on Cancer since 1998. He co-hosts a program on local radio station WSMZ 103.1 (Z-103) devoted exclusively to cancer control and education within the African-American community. He has also been a member of the State of Ohio Commission on Minority Health since 1986, and has held the position of Vice Chairman since 1993. In 2002, Governor Taft appointed Hicks to the Ohio Commission of African-American Men.

Dr. Hicks’s clinical practice is dedicated to the treatment of benign and malignant hematology. Dr. Hicks is also a member of the solid tumor oncology team for which he treats sarcoma.
