Mark Splaingard, MD, is a Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health and the Director of the Sleep Center at Columbus Children’s Hospital. He is board certified in pediatrics, pediatric pulmonology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and sleep medicine. Dr. Splaingard’s research has concentrated on the outcomes of children with chronic pulmonary disease and acquired neurological disorders with a recent focus on sleep disorders in children. In 2004, research was instituted on the modified smoke alarm to awaken children in wave sleep, insomnia and autistic disorders, and pathophysiology of aerodigestive reflexes in sleeping infants. In 2004, Dr. Splaingard gave lectures on sleep to pediatric house staff, pediatric pulmonologists, gastroenterologists, neurologists, general pediatricians, otolaryngology residents, and the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Splaingard gives a sleep technician lecture/discussion one hour per week for 12 weeks to improve the sleep lab services at Columbus Children’s Hospital. He also visits community pediatric and psychiatric practices to answer questions about sleep medicine.
