Stephen Wotman, DDS

Dr. Stephen Wotman, Professor of Community Dentistry in the Case School of Dental Medicine, is concerned with the study of prevention in dental practice, the dynamics of dental health care delivery and the mitigation of oral health disparities in the population. He is the founder of the Northern Ohio Dental Practice Based Research Network that is currently the site of a $2.5 million dollar project that uses direct observation to study prevention in 120 dental practices in northern Ohio. Dr. Wotman is the Principle Investigator of this research program. Dr. Wotman teaches dental students, dental residents, graduate students, nursing and medical students. He chairs the Admissions Committee of the School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Wotman has been at Case Western Reserve University since 1987. He has previously served as Dean of the School of Dental Medicine.

Before coming to Cleveland Dr. Wotman spent 25 years on the faculty of Columbia University in the City of New York. During that time he served as Acting Dean and Academic Dean of the School of Public Health and Dean for Administration and Planning of the School of Dental and Oral Surgery. He co-chaired the Resident Advisory Committee at the New York City Department of Health. Dr. Wotman has published over 70 papers and abstracts in the areas of oral health policy, dental education, and salivary chemistry in oral and systemic disease. He spent 15 years in the General Practice of Dentistry.
