Cyst on the bottom of the foot?

04/10/2000

Question:

I have a sebaceous cyst on the bottom of my foot that is very paifull when I walk. When removed, it grows back in one month. I have pathology reports, bone scans and and MRI that show the cyst clearly right below the first metatarsal.

What caused the cyst and what can I do to prevent it from growing back. I also have a bunion on the same foot on the big toe.

Please help.

Answer:

I suspect the cyst comes back because of the rubbing of your foot against the shoe. You may be able to get some relief by making some adjustments in the type of shoe or with the use of inserts. I suggest that you consult with your physician, however, to make sure there is no other cause for the recurrence.
