Arthritis and Rheumatism

CPK Test

08/28/2000

Question:

Dear Dr. - What is a cpk test for and if it is high, what does that mean? C- Reactive protein test was high (1.28), what does that mean? Rheumatoid factor was less than 20 what does this mean?

Answer:

CPK is released from damaged muscle. It is elevated in those conditions which cause muscle injury.

CRP is increased in inflammation of any cause.

A negative rheumatoid factor means that rheumatoid arthritis is less likely but does not completely exclude the diagnosis.
