Indentations of sigmoid colon

03/18/2002

Question:

If indentations are found in the sigmoid colon after a sigmoidscopy is performed. What can these indentatation be significant of and where can information be found on the internet on indentations of the sigmoid colon Thanks

Answer:

I would guess that the `indentations` of the sigmoid colon are a simple way of describing diverticulosis. Diverticulosis is a very common condition of the colon in which small pockets or pouches form in the lining. This condition is very commonly found on a sigmoidoscopy and is present in nearly 50 % of people older than fifty years of age. If you want more specific details of this condition, please refer to the many previous questions I have answered on it.
