I have recently noticed that my inner lower gums are turning black. I do not have discomfort or ant other problem. This change should have occurred over the past two weeks. I`d like to find out the cause for this change and if it`s reversible.

Answer:

I do not know where the color change exactly occurs. If it is close to the gum line, it may be the color of subgingival calculus showing from the gum tissue. It may also be a staining problem due to your diet or smoking habit.

You should visit a periodontist or even a general dentist. They should be able to determine whether it is happening due to local factors or some systemic health problems. (Sometimes skin problems may also affect the oral mucosa.)
