Left sided abdominal pain

02/28/2006 03:23PM

Question:

My six year old son has been complining of left sided abdominal pain. The pain is allways in the same spot, just under the left lowist rib. The pain comes and goes like labor contractions. Pain seems to be sudden onset and increased on palpation. Tonight was worse than it has ever been. The episode only lasted aprox. 45 min. Pain subsided after a hot bath and hot fluids.

Answer:

My initial thought with crampy, abdominal pain, particularly left sided pain, is constipation.  Only a thorough exam by a medical professional can diagnose the condition, and I would advise you to make an appointment with your son's primary care provider for further evaluation.
