Allergies

Severe rash, swelling of the feet/upper legs

09/25/2006

Question:

I have been suffering with a severe rash, which includes small, blackish bumps which develop puss and then break, and redness (like sunburn) afterwards which eventually goes away, only to repeat itself. I also suffer from severe swelling in my feet and lower legs (from my knees down to my ankles). There is no itching or burning involved but the severe swelling does cause pain. The rash looks like I`ve been bitten by hundreds of fire ants (which I haven`t), but then they fill with puss and break open. This has been going on for about 6 months. Do you have any ideas what this might be, and the treatment I should be receiving?

Answer:

Not without seeing it or getting a more detailed history.  It would be difficult to speculate.  You should see an allergist or dermatologist for further evaluation of this rash.
