Eye and Vision Care

Poked eye, very irritated

05/09/2007

Question:

my 7 month old poked me in the eye with his finger, its been about 9 hours and still very uncomfortable. feels as though theres something in there, and my eye squints every minute or so and waters, especially with bright lights or if i try to keep it open. my vision is ok but fairly blurry, my eye is tender to the touch now, but possibly from rubbing it all day....any advice on how to make this pain and discomfort stop...its been all day!

Answer:

You should see your optometrist or ophthalmologist to see if you have an abrasion that requires treatment. An abrasion will not go away without intervention of some kind. It's best not to consult your general physician/ER/urgent care center for treatment. They are not well versed or trained in treating this.
