Allergies

High absolute eosinophils

09/14/2007

Question:

I`ve recently had a blood work-up where everything was normal except for my absolute eosinophils which were 802 with the norm being 15-500 cells/uL. My TSH was 0.01 with the norm being 0.40-4.50 mIU/L. My thyroid medication was decreased as a result. I do not know what is causing the high eosinophil count. I do not have any allergies or asthma. I am in a stressful situation(family-health) and am fatigued.

Answer:

High eosinophils could suggest many things including underlying allergic diseases that you may not be aware of such as asthma, a potential drug reaction, and certain types of infection. This test should be repeated and if it is still elevated then you should see a board certified internal medicine trained allergist/immunologist experienced in the evaluation of hypereosinophilic disorders.  This is what you need to inquire about when you schedule an appointment with a "specialist".
