Sedation for hysterosonogram

12/28/2007

Question:

I have had a hyterosonogram in the past. It was so painful I nearly fainted. I had a polyp removed. A recent yearly transvaginal sonogram reveals thickening of the uterus and my doctor wants me to do another hysterosonogram. I have a hip replacement now and it will only be worse than the first time. I won`t do it without IV sedation. The thought of the test is causing me intense anxiety. What do you recommend?

Answer:

If you aren't able to tolerate the hysterosonogram, you may need sedation, either oral or IV.
