Occasional bright red blood on toilet tissue03/21/2008 11:56AM |
Over the past couple of months, I have been seeing an occasional streak of bright red blood on the toilet tissue after a bowel movement. It only occurs every occasionally (averaging maybe once a week), and it is always just a small streak. I have never noticed any blood in the stool itself or in the bowl, and there is no other indication of bleeding and no other symptoms. I have a compltely clear colonoscopy about 15 months ago (no cancer or polyps). I am 61 years old, and my mother has a history of colon cancer. Should I be concerned, especially after a clean colonoscopy only 15 months ago?
It is most likely coming from a hemorrhoid or small tear in the anal area but if it persists you should consult with your physician.
