Mastoid effusion04/02/2008 12:45PM |
After an MRI, I waas told I have bilateral mastoid air cells effusions. Would this condition be the cause sharp, shooting pain in my head and behind the eye that is intermitant? Is this something to be concerned about?
The mastoid cavities are air cells located behind the ear, but are connected to the air space behind the ear drum. If you've not had a history of ear infections, with associated pressure, fullness, and hearing loss in your ears, these findings on your MRI may not be significant. On the other hand, mastoid inflammation sometimes can cause pain. I would start by discussing this with the doctor that ordered your MRI, but you may also want to consider seeing an ENT physician.
