Tuberculosis

Annual screening questionnaire

04/08/2008 09:52AM

Question:

After a positive PPD and a clear CXR, how many years can we do the annual screening questionnaire before repeating a CXR?

Answer:

The current recommendation for individuals with a positive PPD and a clear CXR who need an annual tuberculosis (TB) screening evaluation is to fill out the annual screening questionnaire. There is no recommendation for serial CXRs. However, if you should have signs or symptoms of active TB disease, such as cough, fever, chills, night sweats, weight loss, fatigue, and/or decreased appetite, then you will need to seek medical evaluation as soon as possible and obtain a CXR.

Individuals with a positive PPD and clear CXR are diagnosed with latent TB infection. You should discuss with your physician regarding treatment for latent TB infection.
