Glass lung

04/26/2008 01:37AM

Question:

What is the treatment for this? and what is the survival rate for glass lung? thank you

Answer:

You might need to be a bit more specific with your question. "Glass lung" is not a commonly used medical term, and because of that, I am not sure what disease you are asking about. Silica is a mineral commonly found in glass, and long-term exposure to it in an occupational setting can result in the pulmonary disease silicosis. This is a chronic, progressive disease of the lungs characterized by inflammation and scarring in the lungs. There is no treatment for this, and the prognosis depends on the amount of silica exposure and the time over which it occurred.

If that is not the condition you are asking about, please provide more specific information.
