Foods that will increase platelet count

05/03/2008 03:18PM

Question:

Are there any foods or drinks that can increase platelet count?

Answer:

Thank you for your question. To my knowledge, there isn't any research suggesting certain foods increase the platelet count, however there is some evidence to suggest food and drink additives, like quinine, could lower the platelet count. Several pharmaceutical companies are doing research on platelet-increasing medications but I'm not sure where they are in the approval process. You might want to check with your doctor about possible medications or recommendations.
