Sore throat

Question:

am 17 weeks along and i have had a bit of a sore throat lately. its really bad at night`s and in the morrings but gets a bit better durring the day after some hot chicken soup but now am really horse and am unsure if i should be worried i have had a step test and it came back nagitive. but am getting more and more horse should i be worried???

Answer:

One cause of your symptoms is probably laryngopharyngeal reflux. This is where stomach acid and pepsin (a digestive enzyme) come up, past the top of the esophagus and into the voicebox or throat. In this condition, It is very common to have sore throat, a feeling that something is in your throat, thick mucous, and hoarseness without any heartburn.

To make this diagnosis, you should see an ENT, who will be able to visualize the lining of your throat and voicebox. He or she will also be able to rule out more serious conditions that could be causing your symptoms, such as a tumor (this would be uncommon, but the possibility shows that getting an ENT exam is important).
