High blood pressure induced seizures?

05/10/2008 10:19PM

Question:

Can someone have seizures due to a sudden rise in their blood pressure?

Answer:

When the blood pressure rises rapidly and to dangerous levels, the brain can then swell and seizures can be part of the clinical picture. Patients also are usually confused or in a coma. This is called a hypertensive crisis and requires hospital admission. Hypertension (or high blood pressure) is not a cause of epilepsy or recurrent seizures.
