Eye and Vision Care

Size of pupils

05/11/2008 01:24PM

Question:

Hello my son just turned 4 months and I noticed that one pupil seems larger than the other is this normal?

Answer:

Your raise an interesting question. Pupils should be equal in size for both eyes. Look carefully at both pupils and make certain that the pupil sizes are not fluctuating, but are actually unequal. Then, it would be important to have an eye doctor examine your infant to determine the reason for the difference.

Additionally, optometrists are providing free eye examinations (InfantSEE) to infants. Your child's eyes are developing very rapidly at this time; do not delay in assuring that both eyes are developing normally.

Thank you for your interesting question.
