TB Skin Test

05/21/2008 07:43AM

Question:

This is a little odd question - however when I was younger I reacted positive to 2 skin test for TB and never required the BCG as a result. However at the weekend I attended a work ball and both of my skin test that I had over 10 years ago have become inflamed sore and itchy. Is there any cause for this?

Answer:

If you have a TB skin test placed again, it could become inflamed and “itchy.” Once you know that your TB skin test is positive, there should be no reason to have another placed in the future. It would be very unusual for an old TB skin test site to become symptomatic again unless you were exposed to an agent causing contact dermatitis, such as poison ivy, at the same site.
