Decreasing Vitamin D While Taking Fosamax D

05/27/2008

Question:

My physician prescribed Fosamax Plus D. Is there a multi-vitamin without vitamin D available which I can take to avoid ingesting too much supplemental Vitamin D?

Answer:

If you are over 50, it is not necessary to find a multivitamin without D.  Getting 800 IU per day of vitamin D is acceptable.  For older women 1,000 IU  is sometimes recommended.
