Colon polyp removal

05/29/2008 02:23PM

Question:

My father recently had a large cecal polyp partially removed that was located in his cecum. It turned out to be non malignant, but had fragments of tubular adenoma. It was 2-2.5 cm and they couldn`t remove all of it and have asked that he come back for another colonoscopy in 6 months. Our concern is: Can the remains of this polyp be dangerous and turn cancerous? Should he have surgery to remove the remaining residual polyp tissue?

Answer:

I do not think it is unreasonable to wait 6 months. You need to bring your concerns to your treating physician.
