Getting a dental implant06/09/2008 10:24PM |
My dentist repaired a bridge but said it might not last longterm. If it doesn`t, I`ll need a dental implant. I`ve done some reading on them but haven`t come across anything that tells me what the procedure is like. How long does the procedure take? Is it painful like having wisdom teeth? What level of anaesthsia (sp?) is given? Just wondering what to be prepared for.
Dental implant surgery is less traumatic than having wisdom teeth removed. I have no patients complain about the procedure. Either local anesthesia or IV sedation may be used. Your surgeon should discuss these options with you. The procedure usually takes about one hour to place the implant. A periodontist or oral surgeon should do the procedure.
