Trading two teeth for one?

06/18/2008 04:00PM

Question:

My son lost two teeth (the one of the big front ones on top and the smaller one just to the side of it) and only one tooth is coming in to the space - one giant front tooth. Should I worry that there won`t be space for the other permanent tooth when it`s ready?

Answer:

Thank you for the question.

The two front teeth rarely come in at the same time, and they usually are quite large compared to the baby teeth. The best way to determine adequate spacing and tooth development is through a thorough examination including X-rays.

Hope this helps.
