Pulmonary function tests06/24/2008 01:23PM |
Next month I have my first appointment with my lung specialist. More then likely he is going to want PFT done. But I have severe RA in my joint by my breast bone. When they were inflamed it was hard to breath. I read that some of the test I would have to breath as hard and fast as I can. But I might be limited by the RA in my chest and not by my lung function. I would be concerned about the accuracy of the tests. Is there any other way to get the same information with out doing those tests? I already get a yearly EKG, ECHO and Chest X-Ray due to the medications that I am taking.
When pulmonary function tests cannot be performed, we rely on other tests such as chest x-rays, CT scans, and oxygen levels during exercise. These tests will not give us exactly the same information as PFTs, however.
