Can non-arch support in shoes cause hip pain?

08/19/2008 11:37PM

Question:

I wore arch support in my shoes most of my adult life until recently. Now I`m experiencing hip pain and numbness in my left leg. Could the pain and numbess be a result of me not wearing the arch support in my shoes any longer?

Answer:

It is certainly possible that the change in support may have caused alignment issues, however it could also be simply a coincidence and a symptom of a new problem. If you still have them you may want to put the supports back in your shoes however if your symptoms are getting progressively worse or not responding I would suggest an examination.
