Sarcoidosis

Why do my lungs burn?

08/20/2008 09:14PM

Question:

Why do my lungs burn periodically? I had pneumonia about 8 months ago, and since that time, off and on, my lungs burn and/or feel heavy.

Answer:

Dear Sir/Madam-

I am unsure if you are asking a question about pneumonia (an infection of the lungs) or sarcoidosis (a non-infectious disease of the lung)? Assuming that you do have sarcoidosis, it is not uncommon to experience chest pain, including a burning sensation. If the pain is made worse by exertion or by ingesting certain foods or drinks, then causes other than sarcoidosis should be considered.

You should consult your doctor to help determine the cause of your chest discomfort.
