Stopped up ears

08/26/2008 03:01PM

Question:

MY NOSE IS NOT RUNNY, NO HEADACHES, BUT EARS FEEL AS IF THEY HAVE WATER IN THEM SOMETIMES, AND IF I TOUCH SURFACE AROUND THE FRONT PART OF THE EAR, IT STOPS MY EAR UP, OR IF I PUT ANY PRESSURE ON THE SIDE OF MY FACE CLOSE TO MY EAR, IT STOPS UP.

PLEASE HELP ME

Answer:

For symptoms of a "stopped up ear" there are really no other options than to see your doctor - either your primary care physician or an ENT specialist.

It could be something as simple as ear wax in the ear canal, or in other cases, fluid in the middle ear space. The treatment for each is completely different and cannot really be determined other than by physical exam (and audiologic testing in some cases). However, almost all cases of "ear stopped up" are readily treatable. So seeing a doctor is worth the time and effort.
