Urinary and Genital Disorders (Children)

Pubic Hair

10/02/2008 03:12AM

Question:

My 6 year old son has had fine, light, not very long hair on his scrotum for about 2 years. Now I can see that some (1 or two) are getting darker but are still thin. Should this be of concern? Thank you.

Answer:

Fine hair on the scrotum generally is not a sign of a significant problem. However, if there has been a significant growth spurt (height), then it is possible that there is an underlying endocrine abnormality. Your son's pediatrician would be able to check the growth pattern and determine whether there has been an abnormal growth spurt.
