Tongue Biting

10/04/2008 12:03AM

Question:

I have in past 5-6 months been unconsciencly biting the sides of my tongue and in past weeks while I am asleep. Last night I did it so hard I woke myself up and now have a major sore on back-side of my tongue. I asked my sister who is a R.N. she said it could relate to mental illness. Is that so?

Answer:

It may more commonly relate to increased stress and may be accompanied by tooth grinding and/or clenching.  Have your local dentist check your tongue and your jaw muscles.
