Bleeding and Clotting Disorders

Knot in arm

10/08/2008 11:53PM

Question:

I recently had surgery 2 1/2 weeks ago and the I.V. was inserted on the bottom side of my arm. I noticed that a knot has come up about 3 inches from where the I.V. was inserted. It is bruised at the site and very tender to the touch.

Answer:

It sounds like this is a small area of superficial blood clot at the IV site.
