Bleeding and Clotting Disorders

Bursting veins

10/11/2008 11:54PM

Question:

When I am under extreme stress, my heart races, and my left wrist and hand starts to hurt- the veins enlarge, burst, then leave bruses. This event is quit painful. Should I be concerned about this? Could this be happening in other places of my body... like my head? I have had this problem off and on in other parts of my body since I was in my early twenties. I am now 51

Answer:

What you are describing does not really go along with any specific hematologic disorder. I would want to be certain that your blood pressure was not elevated, but otherwise, it really does not point to anything in particular. It is unlikely that you are experiencing more serious problems such as rupture of blood vessels as you would likely have had significant symptoms.
