Pulmonary Hypertension

PH and regular high blood pressure

12/09/2008

Question:

I was told that my high blood pressure was caused by my use of Prednisone. A few years ago they did a ECHO because they though that I had a mini stroke and it showed PH and slight right heart inlargement. Can PH cause me the have regluar high blood pressure?

Answer:

The regular blood pressure is often referred to as the systemic blood pressure. Pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure within the lungs) will not cause an elevation in the systemic blood pressure. However, the abnormal echocardiogram should be evaluated by someone with experience in pulmonary hypertension.
