My baby is 9 months old. She had 2 lower central incisors at 7 months. And instead of upper central incisors, 1 of upper lateral incisor came. Do we need to check with a dentist or wait? Please let me know. Thank you.

Answer:

There is great variation among children regarding the timing and sequence of eruption of teeth. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry both recommend that babies have their first dental exam by 12 months of age. That is to establish a “dental home” for the baby, to provide anticipatory guidance to parents about a host of issues and questions (including timing of tooth eruption), and to rule out current problems.
