Hard, rough lump

Question:
A few months ago I went to my GP because my breasts were extremely painful and I`d located a lump in my left breast near the armpit. It`s relatively hard, lumpy and about the size of a quarter and it`s always in that same spot, but I can sort of shift it slightly. He dx fibrocystic breasts and sent me home, but should I have further testing? I`m 30 and both my grandmothers have breast cancer, but didn`t develop it until their 70`s. The pain is much better since cutting out caffeine, but the lump is still there.
Answer:
It should definitely be evaluated. Breast cancers are generally not painful, but a mammogram or ultrasound may be necessary to assure that the lump is in fact benign.
