Nausea after pneumonectomy

04/09/2009

Question:

I AM CURRENTLY TREATING A PATIENT WHO IS 7 MONTHS POST PNEUMONCTOMY FOR MESOTHELIOMA. HE STILL STRUGGLES WITH NAUSEA DESPITE CONSERVATIVE MEASURES. HIS TESTS ARE ALL WNL AND NO OTHER SOURCE HAS BEEN FOUND. IT IS MY THOUGHT THAT HIS NAUSEA HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE VAGUS NERVE. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Answer:

I would suggest a GI specialist to look at delayed gastric emptying due to vagus nerve paralysis post operatively. Thanks.
