Noncalcified lung nodule: size 13x12x12mm

06/16/2009

Question:

I have been diagonsed with a non-calcified nodule (13x12x12mm) on the upper right lobe of the lung. The edges are smoothly marginated. I do not smoke, nor have I ever. Is the nodule more likely to be malignant due to it`s noncalcification and or size?

Answer:

The nodule needs to characterized with PET and biopsied either by needle or VATS procedure. Malignant potential is difficult to assess by size and calcification alone. Thank you.
