Fetus Kidney06/30/2009 |
What does it mean when my unborn child`s kidney has water in it?
That is a difficult question. It sounds like there is hydronephrosis. There are many many causes of this condition, and most are not serious. However, there can be a blockage to urine flow from the kidney, so it is a potentially serious situation. The risk is highest if the renal pelvic diameter is more than 3 cm. Often pediatric urologists meet with pregnant women carrying a fetus with a possible kidney abnormality to explain the situation and the plan for evaluation after delivery.
