Vitamins for the age 50+

07/17/2009

Question:

I need to know what kind of vitamins are necessary for a woman of 50 with some kidney weekness?

Answer:

I'm not sure what you mean by weak kidneys, but there are multivitamin/mineral supplements on the market that are designed for women over 50. Wyeth Laboratories makes a version of Centrum Silver especially for women over 50. There may be some store brands available that match the nutrient content, though I think the 'for women' version of the Centrum Silver is fairly new. What you will notice is that multivitamin/mineral supplements for people over 50 have a lower iron content than the ones designed for menstruating women. Check with your health care provider to make sure that the product would be compatible with your kidney problems.
