What would you substitute for statins to lower cholesterol if there is muscle weakness due to Copd?
The treatment of the cholesterol is best left to the family doctor or cardiologist. Statins can be used in COPD, even if there is underlying muscle weakness. In fact, there is some evidence that statins may help the respiratory status in COPD patients. If a person with COPD starts statins and then has muscle inflammation or weakness due to the statins, then the statin needs to be changed. However, this is no different than any other patient who is started on statins.
