Ear, Nose, and Throat Disorders

Hollow or clogged feeling

08/04/2009

Question:

i work in a fast food restaurant and have to wear a headset for the drivethru when the drive thru is activated there is a loud "ding" then the person talks. I am having a strange feeling in that ear, this my sound strange but it seems "hollow" or clogged at times.if i tap on my head arove or behind my ear its like a hollow sound. could this be coming from the headset?

Answer:

Although its unclear if your symptoms could be due to your headset use, it is still worth following up on. A hollow or clogged type feeling in your ear can be due to fluid, congestion, an infection or even an inner ear disorder. So its worthwhile getting a quick exam and hearing test.
