Does dye reaction have underlying cause?

09/23/2009

Question:

I read that the is a type of leukemia (c.l.l.?) that may be an underlying disease in people who have a severe reaction to i.v. contrast dye? Have you heard of this?

Answer:

No.  To my knowledge these is no risk factor for radiocontrast media reactions other than a previous history of a reaction.  Having CLL does not increase the risk for RCM reactions.
