Cortisone Injections

10/01/2009

Question:

would cortisone injections help with torn ligaments

Answer:

It depends on the severity of the ligament tear. Cortisone injections are most commonly used to control inflammation and swelling. An injection should be supplemented with ice, activity modification, and physical therapy.

Cortisone injections can also limit pain, which in addition to the anti-inflammatory affect, may allow for quicker healing, but they do not have a  direct effect on healing.  I would follow-up with your local physician to ascertain if there would be any benefit versus risk to having this done.

Good Luck!
