Mixing Medications

11/19/2009

Question:

My doctor has prescribed ultram and flexeril for leg pains. I also take lovestatin for high cholesteral and xanax for anxiety. My question is...could my doctor safely replace the xanax with valium along with these three other prescriptions?

Answer:

In general, valium can be used in most situations in place of xanax, assuming equivalent dosing with the  exception of a few isolated situations. This needs to be done carefully, though, to minimize any difficulties on the changeover from xanax to valium.
